Firefly, Firefly

Have you seen the award-winning Firefly mobile phone? Firefly's are actually for kids & while I have to admit, we're not tweens, the phones are appealing to both of us. I realize this product has been out for awhile, but I just found out about it, so it's new to me! I just think it's the coolest little gadget....

They got their name because they light up when you make or receive calls, just like a firefly. I'm not one to advocate cellphones for kids, but this phone can literally be programmed to only receive & accept calls to parents. One of the most appealing features is a button for emergency calls. As a parent, knowing your child has access to a 'panic' button directly to 911, would be somewhat reassuring.

This cute little phone has only 5 buttons: A 'hello' button, 'goodbye' , 'mom', 'dad' and a phonebook button. The phonebook button is pre-programmed by the parents (with a parent's pin number) with up to 20 phone numbers that can be called. The phone has a very practical Call Screening option that will reject calls from any number not listed in the phonebook. (You can turn the Call Screening option OFF to accept all incoming calls) Call Waiting and Caller ID are also included.

Firefly costs $99.99 & comes with: Phone, 30 Firefly Minutes, Travel Charger, Backpack Clip, and instructions for getting started. After that, you purchase minutes in $25, $50 or $100 blocks. Being that we want our phones only for emergencies, this phone looks perfect for our needs.

To activate the phone, you just call 1-800-FIREFLY (isn't that too cute?) and they'll give you a local phone number. There are no contracts, extra fees or charges, monthly bills or credit stuff.

To accentuate individuality, the phones have 12 ringtones to choose from, 5 animations and 7 LCD screen backlight colors to choose from. There are also 4 different color shells which can be purchased for only $12.99.

In addition to the options above, there are a number of additional accessories that can be purchased. They include: a vehicle charger, hands free headset, mesh pouch, wristlet purse & a Lanyard (whatevah that is!).

I almost forgot, there's a glow in the dark shell for just $9.99. That sounds almost ghoulish & with Halloween coming soon....
